12 Doctoral Scholarships

Mechanisms of Microstructure Generation” Cooperative PhD Programme (GenMik II) between the University of Freiburg and Furtwangen University

 

12 Doctoral Scholarships are currently being offered through the GenMik Cooperative PhD Programme under the sponsorships of the State Graduate Funding Law (LGFG).

 

General Information

 

The University of Freiburg has been offering the Mechanisms of Microstructure Generation Cooperative PhD Programme together with Furtwangen University since 2011.

Twelve doctoral scholarship positions are now available for the next research period starting in October 2014. The research goals of GenMik are a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of microstructure generation and a modelling of basic principles thus enabling further miniaturization steps and the development of new techniques for the improvement of specific related processes. The unique interdisciplinary research approach of GenMik combines traditional research skills with applied research techniques.

The new research programme starts on 1st October, 2014. The scholarships provide a monthly allowance of €1500 including material costs and travel expenses. An additional children’s allowance is also possible.

 

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of the doctoral regulations of the University of Freiburg. Requirements:

 

  • Outstanding university degree (master’s or equivalent) in engineering or natural sciences
  •  Excellent grades throughout study programme
  •  Proof of rapid and uninterrupted completion of degree
  • Strong motivation to gain a research-based PhD degree
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
  • Successful personal interview with the PhD committee
